ASHTABULA —
Kermetta Mae Gustafson, age 72, a resident of Ashtabula, Ohio, died peacefully at home on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012.
Born May 6, 1939, in Salem, W.Va., she was the daughter of Kermit and Harriet (Harbert) Davis.
Kermetta graduated from Salem High School in 1957 and Salem College in 1960, with a bachelor’s degree in education. She went on to post graduate work to further her education. On Sept. 1, 1962, she married G. Gary Gustafson in Ashtabula.
In 1995, Mrs. Gustafson was retired from Washington Elementary School of the Ashtabula Area City Schools. She also taught at Station Avenue, Plymouth, Thomas Jefferson and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary Schools.
She believed education was an important key in people’s lives. Kermetta did not just teach countless students, like all good teachers she changed lives. Her son Gary quotes “What my mom loved about teaching was bringing out the potential in students.”
She enjoyed coffee, reading, crocheting, shopping, going out to eat and traveling all over the United States and England.
She was a former member of TOPS Club and a member of the National Education Association. She participated in bowling at Lake Shore Lanes.
Survivors include her husband, G. Gary Gustafson of Ashtabula; daughter, Virginia Trebilcock of Ashtabula; sons, Gary (Helen) Gustafson of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mark (Annette) Gustafson of Jordan, N.Y.; grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, Rachel, Andrea, Brooke, Alexis, Benjamin, Thomas and Gunnard; four great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Butcher of Mineral Ridge; brother, Louis Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Leah DeJane and Lainey Johnson; and son-in-law, Richard Trebilcock.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 2nd, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 West 19th St., Ashtabula, with Pastor Karen Tews, of Faith Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, Feb. 1st, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
