SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP —
Joseph J. Pete Jr., age 45, of Saybrook Township, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born Oct. 21, 1966, in Ashtabula, the son of Joseph and Mariann (Gliozzi) Pete. Joe was a graduate of St. John High School and Kent State University. On July 10, 1993, he married the former Pamela Foust in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ashtabula, Ohio.
Joe was formerly employed as a Real-estate appraiser for the Ashtabula County Auditors Office. He was currently a broad cast journalist for ESPN radio, was the host of the Sports Report with Joe Pete and was the play by play announcer for WFUN scholastic sports broadcasts. He was a coordinator of the Athletic Academic Scholarship fund along with Dr. William Seeds. Joe also was a writer for Sports Jam magazine and a contributing writer for the Star Beacon Sports Department and worked as an usher for the Cleveland Municipal Stadium, Jacobs Field and was an umpire for baseball and softball.
Joe enjoyed sports of all kinds; swimming in his pool, playing fantasy football and following his daughters extra curricular activities. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela Pete of Saybrook Township; daughters, Abigail and Julia Pete, both at home; and his parents, Joseph and Mariann Pete of Ashtabula township.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Pete.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31st, in Our Lady of Peace Parish / Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula, Ohio.
