ASHTABULA — Florence Agnes Hawn, age 90, of Locust Drive, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Country Club Retirement Center.
She was born May 31, 1922, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Nano and Madeline (Parmagian) Capitena and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident.
After graduating from Ashtabula High School, she attended business school in Cleveland and later went to work as a clerk for the New York Central railroad where she met her husband, John. She later became the tax administrator for the City of Ashtabula, where she retired in 1986 after 23 years of proud service to her community.
A member of Our Lady of Peace Parish (Mt. Carmel Church) and a church volunteer, she was also involved in the flower club, investment clubs and local bridge clubs. In addition, she volunteered as a gray lady for Ashtabula General Hospital/Ashtabula County Medical Center. However without question, her greatest passion in life had become her grandchildren.
Her survivors include her husband of nearly 65 years, John Hawn, whom she married on Nov. 22, 1947; two children, Jane (Clint Jackson) Hawn-Jackson of Saybrook Township and John Hawn of Powell; and four grandchildren, Sarah Jackson, Jacki Hawn, Morgan Hawn and Stuart Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Amelia Pavolino.
Calling Hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4th, at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 5th, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mt. Carmel Worship site, 1200 East 21st St., Ashtabula. The Rev. Ernesto Rodriguez will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula.
