ASHTABULA — Carolyn E. Porter, age 71, of Sheffield Township, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born March 16, 1941, in Plymouth Township, Ohio, she was the daughter of Cliff and Luella (VanSlyke) Dunn and had been a lifelong area resident. Carolyn was a graduate of Ashtabula High School and married her husband, David, on May 28, 1960. They were happily married for 49 years until his death in 2009.
She worked as an assistant at the Ashtabula County board of MR/DD and retired after 32 years of service.
Carolyn enjoyed helping others and volunteering her time. She had been a Girl Scout Leader for many years and more recently volunteered her time with the area LEAF Project.
She enjoyed traveling to custom car shows with her husband and their friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, shopping and most importantly spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Lisa (Jeffrey) Gildersleeve of Jefferson and Russell Porter of Kingsville; grandchildren, Michael Meredith, Kimberly Meredith, Tyler Porter and Robert Hanft; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her good friend, Sandy Bennett.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents; sister, Katherine Askew; and brother, David Dunn.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Sept. 29th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Simak Welcome Center, 6006 Academy St., Kingsville, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Kingsville Public Library.
