CLEVELAND — Jeffrey E. Zappitelli, age 52, formerly of Conneaut, Ohio, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital in Cleveland.
Jeff was born on August 17, 1959, in Conneaut, the son of Michael (Midge) and Elaine Altman Zappitelli. He was a 1977 graduate of Conneaut High School and went on to attend Youngstown State.
He later opened his own pizza shop in downtown Conneaut, known as Zapp’s Pizza, from 1981 to 1986. Jeff traveled to Las Vegas and operated his own ATM business, during the beginning stages of ATM operations. He then returned to Northeastern Ohio to be near his family.
Jeff was a member of St. Mary/ St. Frances Cabrini Parish. In his high school years, he was an outstanding athlete in football and baseball. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling. Jeff bowled several 300 games and was always among the top averages in Ashtabula County. He also played slow-pitch softball for many years with Al’s Motors and Dr. Feelgoods.
Jeff liked to travel and spend time with his friends. He especially loved his Italian heritage and all of the gatherings that brought his family together.
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine (Altman) Zappitelli in 2009; his maternal grandparents, George and Leona Altman; and paternal grandparents, Emil and Dorothy Zappitelli.
Jeff is survived by his father, Michael (Midge) Zappitelli of Conneaut; a son, Anthony M. Zappitelli of Ashtabula; two sisters, Michele and Gregg Rumer of Ashtabula and Julie and Gary Pocatko of Ashtabula; nephew, Michael and Christy Roach; nieces, Megan and Tim Deaton, Jamie Pocatko and Christy Pocatko; two great-nieces, Madelyn Chike and Caydence Deaton; and several aunts and uncles.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday, July 27th, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 28th, at St. Frances Cabrini Church, with Father Philip Miller, of St. Mary/St. Frances Cabrini Parish, presiding. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Route 20, Conneaut.
