JEFFERSON —
Needa A. Simmons went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Sept. 14, 2012. She had been a resident of Jefferson Healthcare Center for the past several weeks.
Needa was born in Conneaut, Ohio, on Jan. 29, 1919, the daughter of Clyde H. and Mabel E. (Blakeslee) Smith. She was a 1937 graduate of Rowe High School, and lived most of her life in Conneaut. She had been a member of the East Conneaut Wesleyan Methodist Church for over seventy years, and she taught Sunday School there. For many years, she also taught Bible Club.
Early in her working career, she was a secretary for East Conneaut Grain and Feed, and later for Bates Motor Sales. She worked as a waitress at the Blue Arrow Diner. During the late 1940s and early 1950s, she and her husband, Paul owned and operated the Union City Diner. From 1952 to about 1969, they also owned and operated the Silver Diner in Conneaut. Additionally, they owned the Norge Village in Andover as well as the Harbor Laundromat in Conneaut.
Needa is survived by her daughters, Dr. Roxana (Frank) Christopher and Darlene (Lance) McCollum; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kristen Schemmerhorn) Miller, Susan (Chris) Riethmiller and Amy Christopher; brother-in-law, Donald Hazen; sisters-in-law, Martha Smith and Shirley Krieg; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Simmons in 1971; her parents; and her siblings, A. Irene Fralic, Charlotte V. Anderson, Clyde Ernest Smith, Ruth A. Hazen, Charles G. Smith and Alvin H. Smith.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 17th, at MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut.
A Celebration of her Life will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18th, at East Conneaut Wesleyan Methodist Church, 313 East Main Road, Conneaut. Interment will follow in East Conneaut Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the East Conneaut Wesleyan Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church.
