MARIETTA —
Mattie “Dot” L. Newhard, age 92, formerly of North Kingsville, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at the Heartland of Marietta in Marietta, Ohio.
She was born Feb. 27, 1920, in Hillsboro, Miss., the daughter of Robert and Minnie (Sudduth) Rigby and had lived most of her life in North Kingsville.
She had taught school in Mississippi before moving to Ohio and then had substitute taught at the North Kingsville School. She was a playground aide at North Kingsville School for 25 years and had been a Girl Scout Leader for over 20 years. She enjoyed flower gardening.
Surviving her are two daughters, Mary “Betsy” Hupp of Marietta and Nancy Brown of Columbus; four grandchildren, Michael Walker, Brian Walker, Leah Etherington and Aaron Brown; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Odis Newhard in 2007; four brothers, Lamar Rigby, Angus Rigby, Earl Rigby and Paul Rigby; and a sister, Mary Wallace.
Graveside Services will be 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 10th, at Eastlake Cemetery, Route 193, North Kingsville, with the Rev. Shane Nanney, of Eastside Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Animal Protective League, 5970 Green Road, Ashtabula, Ohio 44048. The Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula is in charge of arrangements.
