KIRTLAND —
“If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything.”
These words and multitudinous others, both wise and humorous, were penned in the 19th century by Samuel Langhorne Clemens, or more familiarly known as Mark Twain.
This great American author and humorist, comes to life at Lakeland Performing Arts Center with the opening of “Presenting Mark Twain!” Rabbit Run Community Arts Association is producing this show in a special collaborative relationship with Lakeland Community College.
Brint Learned, executive director of RRCAA, portrays this famous American in a one-man show which runs April 9 - 18. “A cooperative effort between RRCAA and Lakeland Community College seems a natural alliance,” said Learned.
“Lakeland has a long history of providing quality arts programming through numerous civic music groups, their own visual arts programs and the Lakeland Civic Theatre. For Rabbit Run, this collaboration offers an opportunity to extend our theater season and to share our productions with a new audience. Our mutual goal to provide quality arts programs to the region has created the basis for an ongoing collaborative relationship.”
Twain, most noted for his novels “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and “Huckleberry Finn,” was renowned also as a world-wide lecturer who with his wit, irony and folksy way was friend not only to the American public but to presidents, industrialists and European royalty.
“Twain was a fascinating man with an insight into life that is at once warm and humorous with just the right amount of wit and sarcasm. It is the rare person who does not relate to his keen observations.”
Presenting Mark Twain! is rated for general audiences. Curtain time for shows on April 9, 10, 16 and 17 is 8 p.m. Curtain time for the April 11 and 18 performances is 2 p.m.
Tickets are $17/adult, $15/senior, student and $10/youth ages 12 and under. Tickets may be reserved by calling the Rabbit Run box office at 428-7092, Tuesday through Saturday, 1 to 6 p.m., or on line at www.rabbitrunonline.or g.
The Lakeland Performing Arts Center is located at 7700 Clocktower Dr. Rabbit Run Theater is operated by Rabbit Run Community Arts Association, a comprehensive fine arts organization.
