Porter, Keener perform for Brown Bag series


ASHTABULA - - The Ashtabula Arts Center's Brown Bag Concert Series will continue at the North Park Gazebo in Ashtabula Wednesday and the Village Park in Jefferson Thursday.

Brown Bag concerts are held at noon and feature a different performer or musical group each week. Admission is always free.

The featured musicians in the North Park gazebo, downtown Ashtabula, will be Porter's Fun Bunch" This group of jazz musicians is locally known for their weekly jam sessions at the Geneva-On-The-Lake home of Bill and Molly Porter. These ardent music lovers play everything from ragtime to gospel but their renditions usually have a distinct flavor of jazz.

Bill Keener has been entertaining in Ohio and Florida since 1975. His musical styles include folk, easy listening, Irish and standards. Keener

has also performed for seniors at area health care facilities. His wife, Colleen, will be accompanying him on the Jefferson stage.

The Brown Bag Theatre Concert Series features a varied group of artists that include folk, pop, country, brass, Irish tunes and more. The Ashtabula series is sponsored by the Star Beacon. The Jefferson series is sponsored by Gazette Publications.

Concerts are held rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, the Ashtabula concerts are held at the First Presbyterian Church on Park Avenue.

The Jefferson rain site is at the United Methodist Church, adjacent to the park.

The remaining performers in the Ashtabula series will be: Gloria and Lou DiFabio on July 25. Irish Tenor John Hoyle on Aug. 1, theater favorite Linda Fundis on Aug. 8 and Bill Orqvist-king of the polka, on Aug. 15.

The remaining performers in the Jefferson Series will be: Porter's Fun Bunch on July 26, Orqvist on Aug. 2; Fundis on Aug. 9 and computer

keyboardist Dave Young Aug. 16.
