MADISON - - Well, those four guys in plaid are at it again, this time at Rabbit Run Theater on Chapel Road.
The old barn theater is opening it's summer season with "Forever Plaid," the story of an aspiring group of vocalists that was tragically lost to the music world when they were killed in an accident with a school bus filled with parochial school students.
"Forever Plaid" is the directorial debut of Connor O'Brien, local music talent known around northeast Ohio for his music abilities. O'Brien also sings the role of Sparky in this production. He is joined on stage by Brian Altman as Smudge, Andrew Rothman as Frankie (whose real name is Francis), and Nick Meloro as Jinx.
As the guys proceed through the evening, their particular idiosyncrasies are made known to the audience. The vascular malady of Jinx is particular intriguing, confirmed by the roars of laughter coming from the audience as Meloro stuffs his nose with cotton and serenades the audience.
If you can remember back to 1964, you will certainly understand and enjoy the music you hear emanating from the stage. You will experience the Ed Sullivan Show and the Perry Como theme song. And you will be pleased with the sounds of the past that you hear. This quartet of young men does an outstanding job of harmonizing while trying to remember their "Plaid" choreography that they haven't rehearsed since that fateful night of Feb. 9, 1964.
The musicians are supported on stage by Brian Dorr on bass and Christopher Chung, pianist. One lucky audience member who can play the top line of "Heart and Soul" on the piano gets to join the group on stage. That could be you! There isn't much to say in the way of costumes except plaid.
Tickets for this enjoyable production may be reserved by phoning the Rabbit Run Theater box office at 440-428-7092. "Forever Plaid" runs today through Sunday and next weekend as well. An extra performance has been added for Thursday. Curtain time is 8 p.m.
