Dorothy's not in Kansas, but at Straw Hat

ASHTABULA - - The yellow brick road leads into the Straw Hat Theatre tonight with the opening of "The Wizard of Oz."

You can leave Kansas and visit Oz today through Sunday as well as June 15, 16, 17, 21, 22 and 23. All shows begin at 8 p.m.

Since it's publication in September 1900, L. Frank Baum's "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" has become America's greatest and best-loved homegrown fairytale. It is one of the most-read children's books. Straw Hat Theatre's

musical production, written by Elizabeth Fuller Chapman from the story Baum, will be directed by Linda Fundis of Austinburg.

Dorothy lives on a farm in Kansas until a cyclone picks her up and deposits them in the land of Oz. She's helped by the Good Witch of the east, but she's also in trouble with the Wicked Witch of the West! The Munchkins send her on her way to the Emerald City, the home of the great and wonderful Wizard of Oz. Dorothy begins her adventure with high hopes that the wizard will be able to find a way to send her back over the rainbow to her beloved Kansas.

Straw Hat Theatre is located at the Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 W. 13th St. Tickets can be purchased by calling the center at (440) 964-3396. Tickets can also be purchased at the door if seating remains available. Patron seating is $12, adults $10, seniors $9 and students/children $8.
