Two local singers take to the stages in Ashtabula and Jefferson next week when the Ashtabula Arts Center’s Brown Bag Concert Series continues its annual summer run Wednesday and Thursday with Bev Newbold and Dennis Ford.
Sponsored by the Ashtabula Star Beacon, Wednesday’s concert in Ashtabula’s North Park gazebo will feature Bev Newbold. She was raised on Southern gospel and traditional music and as a child studied classical piano and voice and for several years was part of teen gospel ensemble. After moving to northeast Ohio, Newbold became part of a popular folk duo Patchwork. She went on to team up with other performers and has also done many solo performances throughout the area. She is a favorite with audiences throughout the area.
Sponsored by Gazette Publications, Thursday’s concert in Jefferson’s Village Park will be filled with music of Dennis Ford. Ford has been playing in bands since 12. He has played in Soul Expressions, Good Question and Qiana and has performed with top entertainers including Tommy James and the Shondells, Chubby Checker and more. Dennis has written and recorded four patriotic songs, three of which have been published by Hilltop Records on CD. He will be singing songs from the 1950’s to the present.
Brown Bag concerts are always held at noon and feature a different performer or musical group each week. Admission is always free.
Concerts are held rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, the Ashtabula concerts are held at the First Presbyterian Church on Park Avenue. The Jefferson rain site is at the United Methodist Church, adjacent to the park.
The remaining Ashtabula performances will feature Martin Crombie on Aug. 4 and The Godfreys on Aug. 11.
The remaining Jefferson performances will feature Linda Fundis on Aug. 5, and The Godfreys on Aug. 12.
