ASHTABULA — “Nutcracker” dances across the stage at the Ashtabula Arts Center for another two weeks and if you work it right, you can get in at half price.
The production resumes tonight and continues Saturday, Sunday and Thursday, as well as Dec. 18, 19 and 20. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m.
Half-price tickets are available to the 7:30 p.m. performance on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. when you help support the Safe Food Pantry at Faith Lutheran Church. Just bring one item of food for donation to the food pantry for each half-price ticket you wish to purchase. Items that are especially needed include tuna, peanut butter and canned goods. No expired items, please.
Based on the E.T.A. Hoffman tale “The Nutcracker and The Mouse King,” Tchaikovsky's classic ballet is about a young girl, Clara, who is given a nutcracker for Christmas by her godfather, Herr Drosselmeyer.
“We received such a great response from last year’s food pantry drive that we decided to do it again this year,” says public relations/marketing coordinator Pamela Hammond.
“Our patrons really came out to support the food pantry in a very big way and they’ve already begun to do the same again this year. In this depressed economy it’s great to see people willing do whatever they can to help each other out.”
The regular price of walk-in, day of show tickets for all performances are $14 patron, $12 adult, $11 senior and $10 student/child. Or save $2 per ticket by purchasing tickets in advance at the arts center box office or by calling 964-3396.
