Final weekend for ‘Godspell’ with ‘A Chorus Line’ next

ASHTABULA —  “Godspell” sings its last at the Ashtabula Arts Center Straw Hat Theatre with final performances today and Saturday at 8 p.m.

Last played on the Straw Hat stage in 1990, this production, directed by James Stover, will introduce a new generation of both actors and audience to this beloved classic. Based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew “Godspell,” by John Michael Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz, is a rock musical that whimsically blends mime, charades, vaudeville routines and impersonations to tell a groundbreaking story based on the life and parables of a radical pacifist named Jesus. The themes of kindness, tolerance, social justice and love are set to Schwartz’s well-known musical score.
Following “Godspell” and opening on Aug. 3 will be the musical production “A Chorus Line,” which will play for three weekends, through Aug. 18.
Tickets are on sale for both productions.  Box office ticket prices are $14 for adults and  $12 for seniors and students. Advance-sale, pre-paid tickets will receive a $2 discount per ticket. Tickets can be purchased at the Ashtabula Arts Center box office or by phone at 964-3396.
