ASHTABULA — G.B. Community Theatre will be shakin’ things up this month with a rockin’ extravaganza of a show — “All Shook Up,” written by Joe DiPietro, which opens tonight.
It’s inspired by and features songs by the late Elvis Presley. Many of Elvis’ most popular top 40 hits like “Jailhouse Rock,” “Hound Dog” and “Don’t Be Cruel” are woven to tell the tale of a 1950s guitar-playing roustabout who rolls into a small town inhibited by its mayor’s “decency proclamation” and teaches the whole town how to swing to a hip new beat.
Performances of “All Shook Up” will be held today through Jan. 18, 19, 20, 25, 26. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees are held at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $14 for adults, seniors/students $12 or save $2 per ticket when you purchase tickets in advance. Advance sales must be purchased prior to 4 p.m. on the day of the show or by 4 p.m. Saturday for Sunday performances. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the arts center box office or by phone at 964-3396.
G. B. Community Theatre will be offering the dinner before the show, prior to the Jan. 19 performance. Seating for the set menu dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $16 plus the price of theater ticket.
Dinner tickets must be purchased by noon Jan. 16. However, seating is limited and dinner tickets often sell out before the deadline. The menu includes jungle room peanut butter and banana finger sandwiches, Graceland gumbo, shaken (not tossed) salad, Tennessee barbecue pulled pork, Memphis mac & cheese, black-eyed peas with collard greens, Elvis Presley cake and assorted beverages.
