ASHTABULA — Straw Hat Theatre will bring Disney's smash hit “High School Musical” to the stage for three weekends, beginning July 10.
Performances will be held July 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24 and 25. All Straw Hat Theatre shows begin at 8 p.m.
A favorite of teens and tweens, “High School Musical” tells the story of Troy Bolton, captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez, a math and science brainiac who decide to audition for their school play. Despite the other students’ attempts to spoil their dreams, Troy and Gabriella resist peer pressure and rivalry, inspiring others along the way to learn to appreciate individuality and diversity.
Written by David Simpatico with music adapted, arranged and produced by Bryan Louiselle, “High School Musical” is based on a Disney Channel original movie written by Peter Barsocchini. The Straw Hat Theatre production is directed by Kim Godfrey, a native of Perry. Debbie Fleming of Ashtabula will serve as musical director of the show's live orchestra.
