Spring arrived late last week in Ashtabula County.
Who didn’t get excited about the snow melting, some warm sunshine and the opportunity to throw our coats off and have some fun?
Oh, to be a kid again and relive the thrill of taking the first bicycle ride of the season on a day just like Friday. How I used to love the smell of the early spring air, as I would ride my bike down the hill from my Grandma’s house to mine. Those were happy, carefree days.
It’s just too bad last week’s melting snow had to reveal that we have so many litterbugs in our community. I’m talking about the zillion beers and soda cans, Polar Pop cups and fast food wrappers that now line our tree lawns and road medians.
What’s wrong with these people?
I have to credit Hubby for his one-man campaign to clean up Ashtabula County one can at a time. From Jeffco Lakes in Andover to the streets of Ashtabula, Hubby picks up every tossed can along the way.
He’s amazing.
Of course, it all stems from his innate ability to save and make money. (As opposed to my inborn ability to spend and lose money.)
But, really people, take some pride in our community and use a trashcan. We have enough problems with 15 percent unemployment, empty storefronts, and cut backs in county and city governments without having to look at a trashy landscape. It’s not like it’s the 1950s and we don’t know any better.
Speaking of “knowing,” I’ve prepared a little springtime quiz for my faithful readers. So have fun and happy St. Patrick’s Day!
