'Jihad vs. McWorld' author to address KSUA conference

ASHTABULA - - Prolific author and internationally renowned political theorist Benjamin Barber will give the keynote address at 1:15 p.m. Friday at the Kent State University-Ashtabula Social Justice Conference, titled "Between Jihad and McWorld: Voices of Social Justice."

The conference is free and open to public.

In his book "Jihad vs. McWorld," Barber examines the effects of globalization and tribalism on the future of democracy in the world, arguing that the practice of pitting one force against the other will result in undemocratic outcomes for civilization.

Barber will deliver his speech in the KSUA Auditorium. It will be followed by a book signing. Barber's book is available in the KSUA Bookstore.

In addition to Barber's speech, there will be several university professors and others who will share their thoughts about the topic, starting Friday morning. The general public can choose to attend one, or all, of the sessions being offered throughout the day. For the full conference schedule and other information, call (440) 964-3322.
