NEW LYME TOWNSHIP — A pickup truck uprooted a tree late Thursday at about 6 p.m. and plowed through a house before coming to rest inside a family’s living room.

Three children were home and escaped injury, but the crash killed the family dog.

April Sloan, 27, was traveling west on Brownville Road when she reached for her infant son’s pacifier. The baby was seated in a child safety seat in the back seat, said Trooper Jared Klingensmith of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, who responded to the scene.

“Sloan was distracted and traveling too fast, when she failed to negotiate the curve and ran left off of the roadway, striking a pine tree, then some landscape stones, and then traveled into the house, stopping inside the living room,” Klingensmith said.

Morgan Babic, 9, was in the computer room at the time of the crash, which is right next to the living room. Babic got his two younger siblings out of the house and called 911, he told the Star Beacon.
