Wind gusts to hit 75 mph, with heavy rain

The National Weather Service, in an update to emergency management agencies (EMA) late Monday morning, is forecasting wind gusts of 60 to 75 mph for lakeshore communities through Tuesday afternoon.

George Sabo, director of the Ashtabula County EMA, said high winds are of the greatest concern to the area because they can topple trees and bring down power lines. He said FirstEnergy customers should report outages to 1-888-544-4877.

Rainfall through 8 a.m. Wednesday is forecast to be 2 to 3 inches. There is potential for flooding along the Grand and Ashtabula rivers as high waves on Lake Erie will hold back the swollen rivers’ flow.

Sabo said residents should pay special attention to elderly neighbors and family who might be without power and heat during the bad weather.

Temperatures are not expected to drop below 40 degrees during the period, so ice and snow should be issues, Sabo said.
