MAILA NURMI, better known to fans of horror as "Vampira," is shown in this publicity photo from the late 1950s. Nurmi established her Vampira character on late-night television in 1954 in Los Angeles. Her role in �Plan 9 from Outer Space� also won her a cult following. She grew up in Ashtabula.
