MARGIE PAGE: The 2009 Ashtabula County Animal Protective League Pet Care Expo will be a day of fun and education as pooches walk the runway and animal communicator Doris Straka gives humans a peek into the minds of their pets.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 6 at the Ashtabula Towne Square, in the former Old Navy store.
Straka will begin private sessions (10 minutes for $15) at 10 a.m. and will continue until 1 p.m. She will speak about her experiences as an animal communicator (Cost $5 donation).

The Expo will also include a “BarKery” bake sale for people and dogs, a pie throwing contest, raffles, and the Spring Fling fashion show at 1 p.m.
Registration forms are available at the APL shelter on Green Road in Kingsville, at the APL mall shelter, the Star Beacon office on Park Avenue, at www.starbeacon.com.
Children and adults can toss “pies” at local personalities, two pies for $1. The APL will also unveil the “Give-A-Dog-A-Bone” promotion. For $1, people can purchase a paper bone with their name on it. For every paper bone sold, a shelter dog will get a rawhide bone. The paper bones will be displayed at the APL shelter and at local businesses.
