NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A Conneaut woman was killed and a city man critically injured when two motorcycles collided late Sunday afternoon in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., police said.

Linda M. Lockwood, 45, 745 Maple Ave., a passenger on one of the motorcycles, died from injuries suffered in the crash, said Sgt. Michael Brouillette. The driver, identified as Russell Luce, 42, of Conneaut, was seriously injured and flown by medical helicopter to nearby Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, according to reports.

The accident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on South Atlantic Avenue, Brouillette said. Motorcycles driven by Luce and David LeVesque, 40, of Conneaut, were northbound on South Atlantic when they collided, police said. Lockwood and Luce were ejected, Brouillette said.

LeVesque and his passenger, identified as Jennifer LeVesque, 37, also of Conneaut, suffered minor injuries, police said. None of the riders were wearing helmets, according to news reports.

David LeVesque was an unsuccessful candidate for Conneaut City Council in November’s general election.

The accident occurred early into Bike Week, an annual event that attracts hundreds of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world to Volusia County, Fla. Lockwood’s death was the first recorded since Bike Week 2010 began on Friday.
