Jason DuBois had a lengthy history of domestic violence and arrests, Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court records show, and spent a year in jail for a 2009 incident.
DuBois, 40, who is the perpetrator in the apparent homicide of ex-girlfriend Cynthia J. Perry, 37, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head Monday after killing Perry on Sunday night.
Sheriff William Johnson said DuBois was “well known at the sheriff’s department.”
“We have dealt with him on several different occasions,” he said.
DuBois spent a year in jail for a February 2009 incident originally charged as kidnapping, abduction, vandalism and gross sexual imposition. The charges were amended with his indictment, though, and he was found guilty of two counts of domestic violence, criminal damaging and vandalism, court records show.
Domestic violence charges were dismissed against DuBois in May 2011, though he was found guilty of assault and paid a $350 fine and $95 in court costs and served a year of supervised probation, court records show.
DuBois also has a history of dismissed charges for using weapons while intoxicated, court records show.
Court records also show DuBois was convicted of five counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, the most recent for a Dec. 24 charge in Ashtabula.
