THE HENRY B. Smith is shown in this 1910 postcard as the 565-foot-long freighter navigated the Ashtabula River. The ship was under the command of Geneva resident Jimmy Owen, who succumbed to the owners’ pressures for more profits and sailed the Smith into the Big Blow of November 1913, never to be seen again.
