THE BIRTHPACE of Theodore Elijah Burton is marked with a small plaque in the front yard of the house at 73 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson. Burton, who was a U.S. representative and senator, made significant contributions in the area of waterways and reducing wasteful spending. His most enduring work was legislation and a treaty with Canada that set limits on commercial and industrial exploitation of Niagara Falls.
